Stil in 2010

It's almost 2011, so we thought we'd reflect on the past year and let you know what's up for the next. A short re-cap of the best of Stil in Berlin, 2010 (which was actually Stil in Berlin and 12 other cities throughout the course of the year).

Our new interview series:

& more fashion weeks than we can remember:

As for next year, we're looking forward to our 5th(!) birthday, and a bit of a change in programming. We'll still be continuing with our street photography, but to a lesser degree than in the past years. We want to bring the focus back to Berlin again after our year of traveling, and at the same time move towards a broader definition of what Berlin style really means, instead of simply presenting what we wear on the streets. Our goal is for Stil in Berlin to become a text- and photo-document of contemporary life in this city. We've brought on new members to the team in the past months to prepare for the growing process, which means that you'll be seeing more interviews, portraits, and other projects depicting Berlin through the lenses of our cameras (with the occasional jaunt outside of the city). We're very happy for the support we've had in helping our project grow these past five years, and are excited about what's to come in the next five.

Guten Rutsch and see you next year!

Trucks & Construction Zones

I've been borrowing my boyfriend's Dior dinner jacket for the past two months and I secretly am not planning on giving it back (just kidding, kind of). I love the satin pointy lapels and boxy structure with the rolled-up sleeves... I've always been a fan of oversized jackets paired with slinky shorts and skirts...it's all about proportions...
Worn with a silk blouse from Stone Cold Vintage,  Zara polka dot scarf, shorts by The Cassette Society, vintage jewelry, Super sunglasses, and Proenza Schouler ankle boots.

Hope everyone is staying warm, it's been really chilly lately and I love it!!

// MY FIRST POLYVORE SET - HENRIK VIBSKOV //

HENRIK VIBSKOV

A total time killer? Oh heck yes! Does it make you feel like you are an Editor at a fashion magazine? Fer shur!

Welcome to Polyvore - Make collages on your computer of things you want but can't afford! I finally signed up and created an account on this ever so buzzed about website to end up spending almost 2-3 hours on it one lonely Sunday night. I'm still trying to "get" it but it seems you can create these collages and images to be not only shared among the Polyvore community but to be shared on your own blog too. This is probably why I've heard only other fellow bloggers and online fashion contributors mentioning this site before!

I was thrilled to see a wide array of great designer and boutique collections on Polyvore. For example, Henrik Vibskov items were on the site and I was super excited about it. So excited that I took a stab at making my first "set." It took me at least an hour to figure out how to work the website and what kind of edit tricks one can do with the little thumbnails to be placed on the interactive canvas. Overall, I had fun making it and will likely come back to the site to make another one. I actually already have an idea for another "set" or "collection" (still not quite sure what the difference is) - a pictorial wish-list of satchel handbags (my current bag situation is quite awful).

But not only is there just an "arts 'n crafts" side to it - there is a commerce component where you can purchase items used in your "sets" and "collections." Would you be tempted enough to purchase an item after staring at it for over 30 minutes while you tweak and fix an image that will make you feel like the next Andy Warhol for about 5 minutes until reality seeps in that you are flat broke?

No? Yes? Maybe? I'll go with maybe for now...I mean it is the holiday season right now - tons of mass encouragement to spend, spend, spend every dime for the sake of it!

Well, I'm going to keep on visiting Polyvore and exploring the site - but only when my wallet is hidden away somewhere to prevent me from purchasing anything!

Countdown

Yes, I know it's kinda late, but still, I want to say, Merry Christmas guys, hope you all had a wonderful one.

Now, only few more days until 2011, don't forget to make your own list of new year's resolutions!

just a quick post to wish you all happy holidays.
eventhough we all share the same 365 days, they surely do not feel the same to everyone.
some may feel that 365 days are not enough to fit everything into their challenging life
whereas others will think the period could not drag by any slower.
be that as it may, new year is a time to share similar sentiments of happiness and joy.
we wish you all safe travels, good food, and great company.
we are taking advantage of some much needed time off and will be enjoying a nice getaway with our family for a few days.
will surely be back after the new year with plenty of new photos and hopefully get to refresh and reinspire.
catch you all in the new year.

Comfortable Sunday

Wore this to go to church and grab brunch in LA with my family and boyfriend. I'm wearing a Zara men's scarf, Ralph Lauren blazer, Topshop trousers, and Prada ankle-strap pumps.
Laughing a little too much in this set of photos. Speaking of abundant laughter, my best friend is in town for the week and I'm so happy she's here...we are so crazy when we're together! Anyway, hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas! xxx

// OBSESSION: "SLEEPLESS" BY LO-FI-FNK //

Another recent obsession of mine also coming from Sweden is the band LO-FI-FNK and their video for the single "Sleepless." My good friend DJ Zak Broman (Hong Kong/Boston) recently shared this video with me, and ever since then I've been listening to this song almost ten times a day.

The video was directed by the duo Tomas Carlsten & Simon Svéd. From the minimal research I've done, they are both (or were both) two students from Beckmans School of Design - an elite fashion school in Sweden.

This song is my official holiday jam of 2010 - enjoy!

Karla's Closet has become one of my favorite blogs.  Here eye for interesting jewelry, and her love for her curves and perfect broken in jeans is admirable.  This outfit above is my favorite one from the blog.  The feminie skirt is offset by her amazing Levi's and biker jacket perfectly.  I might attempt this with my similar pewter colored skirt.  Be sure to check her out.

Return

Hey Readers,
I'm back, for REAL.  After being distracted by other commitments, I miss blogging!  I wanted to start a new page, but all the domain names that I want are taken :(  So, I'm keeping it here, but with a new name: Call of the Wild.  My style is natural, thoughtful, and thoughtless.  I like clothes for adventures, nothing too serious.  So here, I will share my style perspective, and my favorite music.

Stay tuned,
JM

The Journey of White Oleander

This season, Nikicio Femme latest resort 2011 collection, entitled "The White Oleander", offers you a fresh, youthful look, with an interesting twist.
Nina Nikicio, the young designer behind this remarkable line, was inspired by the tale of The White Oleander. The story itself tells a journey and experience by young Astrid through a series of foster homes after her mother was serving time in jail.

"Beautiful, Dangerous, Proud"
three words simply arrived from the movie and described the whole collection best,

I can honestly tell that I was hugely impressed by the whole collection. Again, they strongly define young Astrid's journey. Well worth the investment!
