MFWF11 ♥ CRUSHING HARD FOR VICTORIA YOUNG

victoriayoung

I was really inspired by Victoria's style this past fashion month. I loved her interpretation of all the season's trends. Above, she took neon to a nice place by keeping it monochromatic with matching hat, jumper, earphones and eyeglass cord. Plus, the look couldn't be styled better. The delicate ruffles of her blouse combined with the intense neon and black leather screams cool.

And I love her approach to retro dressing. Fifties inspired? Pffff, this look is so 2011.

And who doesn't love a edgy-chic varsity girl? Can't wait to see you next season V!!!

At Home: Adriano Sack

Yesterday I visited Adriano Sack, a journalist and author who moved to Berlin some weeks ago after years in New York, choosing Kreuzberg's beautiful Planufer as his new home. He found an apartment just by the canal, which needed extensive renovation since the former renters had a distinct preference for wooden interiors (imagine a bathroom with wooden panelling on walls and ceiling, combined with a pink bathtub, or a kitchen completely designed in pine wood). After painting everything white and furnishing it with personal items like the disco ball he found on the streets of New York one day and the beloved elephant lamp, Adriano starts to feel home again in the city he left many years ago.
Adriano is the founder of I like my style, an online style community that started printing a member generated magazine featuring whose new issue is just out!.

PS, something personal: excuse our lame content production these days (weeks.. months!) I am currently working on several exams to finish my studies and it's harder to combine this with the work on the blog than I thought...

R E F L E C T I O N S

"Wood appears as a portrait of the artist as a young Goth, albeit in high style—it’s a look that might be described as insane punk elegance. The severe black military jacket is, naturally, by Chanel, the bag by Miu Miu. Her iridescent red hair has been sublimated into two architecturally vertical, gravity-defiant ponytails; a smudge of kohl and bronze offer graphic contrast to Wood’s curiously opaque hazel eyes and alabaster skin; the dangerously spiky heels hanging off her feet look both stripper-ready and expensive. The overall effect makes her appear as an exotic manga character..."
-Matt Diehl for Black Book

I'm really going to geek-out as a writer here.  What inspired me to become a writer was my boredom with different magazines all printing basically the same story about an artist or a band.  Every once in a while, a good profile keeps me on my toes and inspires me.  One constant has been Luke Crisell's work in Nylon (I recently realized that I've admired his work since I was thirteen).  This profile of a very interesting young actress, Evan Rachel Wood, is now on my list of favorites.  Matt Diehl painted a picture of the complex starlet.  He peppered the article with semi-obscure literary references, and impressed me with the clever verb tense used in the above quote: "gravity defiant," not gravity defying.  Little tweaks like this keep me on my toes as a reader, and stay in my mind when I am writing.  More than anything, Diehl didn't seek to expose scandal in Wood's life; instead, he told her story.  Well done Matt Diehl, well done.

See more beautiful photos by Andrew MacPherson and read the entire article HERE.
I have to mention that I love the photos as much as the profiile.  MacPherson captured a very grown up, spectacularly beautiful Wood.  The photos have the aura of a classic film starlet.

An Old Favorite

Alison Mosshart is an old style favorite of mine.  My first blog post may have actually been about her.  She always looks natural, yet cool and rock n' roll.  I guess it's just in her blood.

// OBSESSION: CTRL CLTHNG //

This Helsinki-based brand called "CTRL" is my new flavor of the week. Just about every piece in their Fall/Winter 2011 collection is on my wish list. The casual-chicness of their designs is something that will appeal to all young, modern urbanites that are looking for smart-cut, comfortable clothes that have a bit of attitude or humour in them.

Below are my favorite picks from their look book. For those who live outside of Finland, fear not - they sell clothes online too!

Dressed Like A Girl

The skies were gray mostly all last week and after a while, it starts to affect your mood. I figured the best way to combat that was to wear a brightly-colored dress! So I wore this to grab tortilla soup and walk around the flea market with my boyfriend.
I found this silk dress at Shareen's Vintage in Downtown LA along with many other dresses that I have yet to debut on the blog. I mentioned on Twitter the other day that I feel like I have so many really over-the-top dresses (I'm talking floor-length sweeping ruffled gowns) with no place to wear them. I guess I just love how beautiful they look hanging in my closet!
Silk dress worn with vintage belt, antique earrings, Metal Pointus ring, vintage ring, and L.A.M.B shoes.
