The Jenifols x MAGUEN 11:11

Few weeks ago, The Jenifols had the pleasure to attend, and dj at the launch of the new spanish label MAGUEN 11:11. Loads of our mates came to give their support at the event that was held at their brand new shop which is based in barrio Salamanca,Madrid. The store has an exquisite decoration that tries to transport costumers to the big apple. The menswear collection is inspired in the characteristic style that you often see while taking a walk around the Upper East Side, the Hamptons or the West Village. The whole concept comes from the creative director of the label, Gala Canut, which perception of her time living and studying in New York has been a big influence for the brand with also very affordable prices! And for those wondering, yes! we did spend quite a while talking about how awkward is for both to have such an unsual name  both working in the same industry, and we got to the conclusion that Gala seems to be a great name to have! ha ha ha. We had a great time, and now if you pass by Madrid and wonder where to find a bit of the "other side" you cannot forget to stop by c/Velazquez 26! (Special thanks to Fidel!)

Stereopony

I have been listening to Japanese music since middle school.  There's something very special about the groups that I like.  Their upbeat music, even happy songs, seem to have an undercurrent of melancholy.  That element has fascinated me and moved me to tears.  I don't believe I can say that about an American group.  It's either melancholy or happy; never both.  This particular band, Stereopony, are also special to me for a very important reason: they are all girls.  They play instruments with sophistication, instead of merely strumming two chords and looking pretty.  Check out the above video for "Hitohia No Hanabira" and rewind the solo, play it twice.

A Royal Wedding

Today is a very special day, congratulations to the newlyweds, and the bride wore
 Alexander McQueen. :)

DIY: Cuffed shorts

As an attempt to achieve an Annie Hall look, I purchased these pants at a thrift store for a little over a dollar (25 lempiras).
However, they never did my small frame any justice. That's why, after a reader from my spanish blog requested a tutorial for turning pants into cuffed shorts, I decided to chop these off. I'd already done it before with a pair of Eiffel tower-print pants, and the process was quite simple.
Here's what you need:
As reference to the final length of the shorts, I used a pair that I already had with the length I wanted. I used a ruler and tailor's chalk to make my first marking, on the wrong side of the pants:
Next, I marked 3 inches below my first marking.
This second marking is the line you will cut through.
I recommend pinning together both sides of the pants in order to cut them evenly.
Now, fold them upwards (still wrong side up) along first marking you made. Iron the fold flat:
Fold another half inch towards the inside of the fold; The result is a 2.5 inch hem. You can use the tape measure to make sure the hem is even, and use pins to keep it in place.
Now, the fun (and sometimes most difficult) part: sewing! Sew a straight stitch along the very edge of the fold.
Once you've finished sewing, your hem is officially done. Flip it towards the right side, heat press with the iron, and the backwards hem is now a cutesy cuff.
This is what it should look like:
The pink, dotted line is where the straight stitch is visible (inside the shorts). If the fabric is somewhat flimsy, secure the cuff by sewing the sides of it to the shorts, and maybe a few stitches center front and back.
I did it all with my sewing machine, but it can be hand sewned as well. : )
The final result:

Not frumpy enough for Annie Hall, but frumpy enough for some lovin'. ♥
Hope it was understandable...feel free to ask any questions!

21/04/11 Alone at the Concert @ WUK, Architecture in Helsinki + Russian Futurists, Vienna

At this concert I heard one of the funniest thing ever told on stage. The singer of "The Russian Futurists" to introduce the last song said: "This song is not in the hit list in Canada, neither in Austria... but somewhere in Burkina Faso, this song kicks the ass!!!" ahahah great!

radiohead - reckoner
solitude is not just the bliss that the only son possesses.
its style mantra is sharply declared through the brand's minimal concept with a fierce tone.
never mind the spring overdose since a flip back to its autumn/winter 2010 collection insistently engraves our madness
towards structural form and beats the sensation to the graduation of heart-pounding movement.
beyond its reversible jacket o' thy moment that leads to a fashion controversy,
it is relevant to intensify the design with acute scenes of editorial images in subsequent manner.
put your curiosity in exile and march down your unisex steps to here for more.

4.03.11 // BROOKLYN // Williamsburg / Brooklyn Flea

On the way to the Brooklyn Flea, these kids were just hanging out with their cat. Yup.

i-DENIM

I still love this old shoot from i-D of totally worn, patched up jeans.  Denim is such a versatile fabric.  It has almost no rules.  Maybe that is why I like it so much.  There are times when I think, "Everybody wears jeans" with near boredom.  Still, this "anything goes" fabric is my favorite textile.  It can be customized with endless possibilities; all the more reason to keep rocking the blues.
